Register a New Domain with Chief Host

What you'll learn

By the end of this guide you'll have registered a brand-new domain name (e.g., yourbusiness.xyz) through Chief Host, ready to use with your hosting account.

Before you start

  • You need a Chief Host account. If you don't have one yet, you can sign up when you make a purchase at chief-host.com so just follow the instructions on screen to complete your first purchase.
  • Have a few domain name ideas ready in case your first choice is already taken.
  • Search and find a domain name you would like to purchase and checkout.
  • You will receive the email confirmation with instructions to access your client area once your order has been processed.
  • This should usually be instantaneous however registrar processing can take anywhere upto 48hrs.

Steps

  1. Log in to your Client Area at my.chief-host.com.
  2. Click Domains in the top navigation bar.
  3. Click Register a New Domain. [Screenshot: Client Area → Domains → Register a New Domain]
  4. Type your desired domain name into the search box (e.g., yourbusiness).
  5. Choose your extension.co.uk, .com, .org.uk, .uk, or any other available extension.
  6. Click Search to check availability.
    • Available: you'll see a green tick or "Available" label. Click Add to Cart.
    • Taken: the domain is already registered by someone else. Try a different name or extension.

???? Tip: If your preferred .com is taken, try .co.uk or .uk — they're often available and great for UK-based businesses.

  7. Choose your registration period — most domains can be registered for 1 to 10 years.
  8. Configure optional add-ons:
    • Domain ID Protection — hides your personal contact details from public WHOIS lookups. Recommended for privacy.
    • DNS Management — usually included by default.
    • Email Forwarding — if you want basic email forwarding without a full hosting plan.
  9. Click Continue to proceed to checkout.
  10. Enter your domain contact information — this is the registrant (owner) information for the domain. Fill in your name, address, email, and phone number.

⚠️ Heads-up: This information must be accurate. Incorrect registrant details can lead to your domain being suspended by the registry.

  11. Review your order and choose a payment method.
  12. Click Complete Order.

Your domain will be registered within a few minutes. You'll receive a confirmation email with the details.

What to expect next

  • If you already have a hosting plan: Your new domain's nameservers will typically be set to ns1.chief-host.com and ns2.chief-host.com automatically. You can start building your website right away.
  • If you don't have hosting yet: You'll need to order a hosting plan and then point your domain to it.
  • Domain verification: Some domain extensions (especially .com, .net, and .org) require you to verify your email address via a link sent to the registrant email. Check your inbox and click the verification link within 15 days, or the domain may be suspended.

???? Tip: Corporate Hosting customers get a FREE domain for the first year included with their plan.
